Hudson lies in the scenic St. Croix River Valley, which forms the border between Wisconsin and Minnesota. Hudson is a community noted for its high quality of life and its citizens willingness to seek innovative ways to maintain and further enhance their community's livability. The Hudson Community Fund (HCF) is a charitable organization which seeks to attract and develop community and philanthropic assets to enhance the quality of life of individuals and families in the Hudson, Wisconsin area. A community fund creates a pool of donors with diverse interests from diverse backgrounds who have a common goal of enhancing the quality of life in their community. Their contributions provide for a long-term investment where assets can grow in what is called a permanent endowment. Earnings from these assets are then iven back to the community in the form of grants. 2. WHY HAVE A COMMUNITY FUND? A community fund offers donors simplicity and flexibility in charitable giving, maximum tax advantages and the knowledge that their gift will benefit their community in perpetuity. A community fund exists to help create a healthy and vital community in which all people havee the opportunity to enhance the quality of their lives. 3. WHAT IS THE HUDSON COMMUNITY FUND? The Hudson Community Fund (HCF) was founded in 1999. It is a separate operating division of the St. Croix Valley Community Foundation (SCVCF), a 501(c)(3) tax exempt community foundation. HCF focuses its efforts to provide funding in the areas of education, human services, civic projects, youth, and the environment. The SCVCF actively manages and invests the assets of the HCF. Through its affiliation with the SCVCF, HCF enjoys an unusual breath of resources, experienced staff and other benefits in its service to individual donors, organizational endowments, and community funds for the community of Hudson. 4. HOW CAN YOU MAKE A DIFFERENCE? Many people care about their community and would like to share resources with it in a lasting way, but feel they are not able to make a difference alone. For such people the Hudson Community Fund can be of service. The Hudson Community Fund can give you the satisfaction of being charitable and knowing your gift will be put to good use in the community. The Hudson Community Fund offers a variety of funds to enable you to achieve your charitable objectives.
5. WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF FUND AVAILABLE?
A. Unrestricted Funds.
Unrestricted Funds are the most flexible and responsive to emerging and changing community needs. You leave decisions on the charitable uses of these funds to the governing board of the Hudson Community Fund. Unrestricted funds allow response to special situations and to the ever changing needs of the Hudson Community.
B. Field of Interest Funds.
Field of Interest Funds allow you to specify a particular area of which income from your gift can be targeted. The Hudson Community Fund fields of interests include the areas of education, human services, civic projects, youth and environment.
C. Donor Advised Funds.
Donor Advised Funds have a minimum requirement of $10,000. They are dedicated endowments that provide for the ongoing involvement of family members, organizations, business representatives, or appointees as fund advisors. Fund advisors participate in the grant making process by making funding recommendations to he Board of Directors based on the dedicated purpose of the fund. The fund advisors and the Board of Directors work cooperatively to fulfill the fund's specific intended purpose.
D. Future Funds.
Future Funds are designed for medium level donors who wish to establish an endowment fund over time. The fund grows through regular contributions and earnings until a specified date or it reaches a specific dollar amount. No distributions are made from the fund until the specified time when the fund will be managed as an endowment.
